John Marshall, Jr.

Mr. Marshall is a part-time Associate Legal Counsel at Kennesaw State University. He retired in 2007, from his position as University Attorney at Georgia State University after 31 years of service and currently serves as a consultant to the College of Coastal Georgia. He also is a founding member of the Principal One Consulting Group, LLC, which focuses on legal issues in higher education and non-profits.

While at Georgia State, Mr. Marshall served as the Acting President and Vice President of the University’s Foundation. He also served on the Board of Directors of the University’s Research Foundation and Athletic Association. He taught Political Science as well as Higher Education Law and Sports Law. Mr. Marshall has presented numerous speeches and lectures at conferences across the United States and Canada and has published five articles or chapters related to various legal issues. He has long been a member of NACUA, serving on its Board of Directors and on numerous committees.

He currently is a member of the President’s Advisory Board at Clemson University, and is President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Johnny Mercer Foundation. Mr. Marshall served five years on the City of Atlanta Board of Ethics and was its Chair for three years. He previously served as President of both the Fulton County Division of the American Heart Association, and the Morningside⁄Lenox Park civic association

Mr. Marshall earned his B.A. in Political Science from Clemson University and his J.D. from Emory University.
